What is a Persian rug?
A Persian (Iran) rug is a rug that is made of wool and cotton. The face yarns of a Persian rug are made of wool while the structure of the rug is made of cotton. You can also have Persian rugs with a wool face yarn and wool structure or a complete silk rug where the face yarn and the structure are made of silk.
Persian rugs can have a curvilinear or rectilinear design. These rugs can be weaved in cities, villages or small nomadic tribes. Places in Iran that weave rugs are Ahar, Bijar, Hamadan, Heriz, Isfahan, Kashan, Tabriz and Sarouk.

Cleaning Persian rugs
We clean Persian rugs as safely as we can using cleaning solutions and techniques that will not damage the rug.
The first thing we do is to carry out a full inspection on the rug to see if the rug has any damage to it. What stains the rug has and if there is an odour. You will be best advised on what stains will come out and what stains may not come out during cleaning.
Once the inspection is carried out we then use our RugBadger to get up to 80% of the dry soil out. Once all the dry soil is removed we then decide what the best cleaning method is to be used. Most of the time a rug is soaked in our cleaning solution and then cleaned with soft brushes. The dyes on the rugs are tested to see if they will bleed and if they do, we can use our dye stabiliser to set the dyes to prevent them from bleeding onto the lighter colours of the rug.
The rug is then rinsed with fresh water removing stains, dirt and soil. Once the main body of the rug is cleaned we then clean the fringes of your rug removing dirt and staining.
Once the rug is cleaned and flushed out of all dirt and cleaning solution it is then dried on our drying racks in our drying room. We use air movers, heaters and dehumidifiers to dry the rugs quickly.
